About

This blog shares information about travel, food, wine and spirits plus offers a behind-the-scenes peek at my work life—I get to sit in on some pretty fab stuff in the name of research.

I'm a professional freelance writer and editor who happens to also write this blog. I juggle multiple deadlines for various publications. Paying gigs get top priority, so there are sometimes time gaps between posts here.

In the course of my research, I've been to 34 countries on four continents (so far). I've judged several food and wine competitions, reviewed restaurants for several magazines and two different newspapers in Atlanta, Georgia—where I'm lucky enough to live—and routinely meet chefs, winemakers, distillers, restaurateurs, sommeliers, hoteliers and other celebrated experts.

This blog is an extension of my work, but let's get one thing clear: I'm not paid for this blog, so I take a very casual approach to writing for it. If you want to read more "formal" works, please visit the portfolio on my website, hopesphilbrick.com.

When not writing, I'm usually on the road or savoring something tasty.
